Biography

Archibald Clarence Willis was born on 18th May 1893 at Grafton, New South Wales, Australia. He was the younger son of Samuel Willis and Catherine Holmes.^[1]

He worked as a butter factory hand.

It has been stated that he was a First World War veteran, however his service record is yet to be located as a source.

He married Vida Buttenshaw on 11th May 1921 at Murwillumbah, New South Wales.^[2] They made their home at Tyalgum, New South Wales. They had three sons:

1. The Hon. Sir Eric Archibald Willis (1922-99), soldier, geographer, member of the NSW Legislative Assembly, and premier of New South Wales
2. Darcy Buttenshaw Willis (1926-89), school teacher and headmaster
3. The Hon. Brigadier Max Frederick Willis (1935-), solicitor, soldier, and member of the NSW Legislative Council

He passed away on 23rd April 1975 at Tyalgum, New South Wales and is buried in the Clarence Lawn Cemetery.^[3]
