Biography

Peter was born on the 26th May 1809 the son of John Williams (~1779 - ) and Agnes (Hursk) Williams (~1783 - 1846), and he was christened on the 29th October 1809 in Holbeton, Devon.^[1][2]

First Marriage

Peter a cordwainer, married Sarah Bowden Tremayne (~1811 - 1836) on the 22nd June 1830 at Stoke Damerel, Devon. The witnesses were Samuel Gilbert Pyke and George Nettle.^[3][4]

Second Marriage

Peter a widower and cordwainer, married Elizabeth Couch (~1816 - ) on the 22nd August 1837 in Stoke Damerel, Devon. They were both living at 29 Granby Street, Stoke Damerel, Devon. Peter was the son of John Williams a tin plate worker, and Elizabeth was the daughter of John Couch a painter. The witnesses were Mrs. Braddon and George Nettle.^[5]

1841 Census on the 6th June 1841 Peter a shoemaker, was living in Granby Street, Stoke Damerel, Devon with his second wife Elizabeth and his children Sarah Elizabeth and Edward from his first marriage, and Peter from his marriage to Elizabeth.^[6]

1851 Census on the 30th March 1851 Peter shown as John a shoemaker, was living at 11 Market Lane, Stoke Damerel, Devon with his second wife Elizabeth and his son Edward from his first marriage, and his children John and Rebecca from his marriage to Elizabeth.^[7]

Third Marriage

Peter a cordwainer, married Harriet Pengilley (~1821 - ~1884) on the 20th April 1855 at St Mary's Church, Devonport, Devon. Peter the son of John Williams a tin plate worker, was living at 12 Market Lane, Devonport, Devon, and Harriet was living at 76 Princess Street, Devonport, Devon the daughter of George Pengilley a labourer. The witnesses were William Pengilley and Elizabeth Pengilley.^[8]

1861 Census on the 7th April 1861 Peter a shoemaker, was living in Stoke Damerel, Devon with his third wife Harriet and his daughter Rebecca from his second marriage, and Mary, Peter and Harriet Caroline from his marriage to Harriet.^[9]

1871 Census on the 2nd April 1871 Peter a cordwainer, was living at 11 Market Lane, Devonport, Devon with his third wife Harriet and their children Mary, Peter, Harriet Caroline and Agnes.^[10]

1881 Census on the 3rd August 1881 Peter a cordwainer, was living at 11 Market Lane, Devonport, Devon with his third wife Harriet and their children Harriet Caroline and Agnes.^[11]

1891 Census on the 5th April 1891 Peter a widow, was living at 47 Duke Street, Stoke Damerel, Devon with his daughter Agnes and her husband William Augustus Gallehawk and their daughter Alice.^[12]

1901 Census on the 31st March 1901 Peter was living at 2 Granby Row, Devonport, Devon with his daughter Agnes shown as Annie, and her husband William Augustus Gallehawk and their children Alice, Elsie, Reginald and Dora.^[13]

Peter died aged 92 in 1901 in Devonport, Devon, and he was buried on the 21st November 1901 in Stoke Damerel, Devon.^[14][15]
