George was born in 1790 in Philadelphia, PA. He was the son of George William Wiles (1757-1796) and Agnes Ann Byrd (1767-1812). On 14 Oct 1815 in Philadelphia, he married Mary Ann Miller (1794-1844, dau. of George C Miller & Catherine Link). Shortly after they moved from Pennsylvania to Arkansas, settling in Mountain Township of Scott County. They had 8-9 known children.
George enlisted in July 1814 into Captain Richard Moore's Company of Missouri Militia. They assisted with the building of a fort at Iowa Town on the Illinois River in What is now the State of Illinois. He was discharged at Camp Russell, Illinois in November 1814.
In 1850, the census shows living next door to each other are Geoge and sons Andrew, William and John where they were all working as farmers. Still living at home with him are children: George, Jacob, Mary, Samuel and James
In 1860, the census shows George living next door to sons Jacob and John where they are all working as farmers. George and his son James are living with the mother and siblings of his son George Jr's wife, Mary. It is unclear why Mary does not appear on the census, but her mother and 6 siblings do. Her father had died in 1856.
In 1870 he is living with his son Jacob's family. His son Samuel is in this household, too. On this census, the name was transcribed as "Miles".
There is an 1880 census of a "George Wilds" in the same general area, but it is believed it is not him due to the other relationships in the household (i.e., a daughter born well after his wife had died).
It is believed he passed away in 1880. He is buried at the Haw Creek Cemetery in Scott County, Arkansas.
