In 1891[3] William (13) was living with his parents Rachel (45) and William (53) "shoe maker" and siblings Sarah (19), Margaret (15), George Albert (10), Rowland (8), John Alfred (7), Ernest (5) and Annice (7 months) in Tibshelf.
In 1901[4] William (19) "bootmaker" was living with his parents William (62) "bootmaker" and Rachel (53) in Tibshelf with siblings Eliza (28), George Albert (19) "coal miner". Rowland (16) "coal miner", John Alfred (14) "groom", Ernest (12) and Anice (10).
Marriage William married Emily Annie Bird on 26 December 1906 in Kirkby in Ashfield (East), St. Thomas, Nottinghamshire [5][6]
In 1911[7][8] William (31) "bootmaker" and Emily (31) were living in Highfield North Wingfield Derbyshire together with their son Frank Cyril Ward (3). Also in the household was Doris Lylie Woolgar (13), his niece, the daughter of his sister Sarah.
In 1921[9] William (41) "Boot Maker & Repair Employed by Own Account" and Emily (41) were living at 12 Paington Road, Blackburn Lancashire together with Frank Cyril (13) and Leslie William (10).

There was a William Ward, born 2 January 1880 "boot repairer" resident in Blackpool Lancashire in 1939 [10]. Also registered there was Lucy Ward b1892.
