Obituary [5]

CHARLES B. WARD

Charles B. Ward, husband of Mrs. Margaret C. Ward, and widely known business man of the Ninth ward, died yesterday at his home, 825 West Third street, following an illness of several months.

Mr. Ward was born in Philadelphia, but his parents moved to this city when he was still a boy. They settled in the western section of the city, then the Borough of South Chester. Here Mr. Ward grew up and became politically active in the affairs of the borough and continued to take an interest in politics after the borough was annexed by the city. He served on the police department under the late Mayor Crosby M. Black.

In 1905, or when the automobile business was still in its infancy he entered the garage business and garage and accessory store known as the West End Garage and conducted this establishment until the time of his death. A man of affable disposition and a keen memory he made a host of friends and prospered in the business.

Several months ago he was stricken with a heart attack from then until he died he had been confined to his home.

Besides his widow, two children Mrs. Mary Bergdoll and Charles J. Ward, president of the West End Business Men's Association, survive.

The funeral will be held from his late home at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and following a solemn mass of requiem at the Immaculate Heart Church at 10 a.m. burial will be in the Immaculate Heart cemetery.

Members of the West End Business Men's Association will visit the Ward home tomorrow evening to pay their respects to the deceased.
