Biography

William was born in 1784. He was the son of William Taylor and Elizabeth Hampton. This son had his father's name but was not referred to as "Junior" but is named in court documents as "Tarlton Taylor". After his father died and his land divided into 11 lots, 1/3 of entire property to wife Elizabeth (dower rights) and 1 per child numerous times, not only for the settlement of his father's estate but for law suits initiated against him due to his own debts. He was known to be a "few steps ahead of the law." He married Elizabeth Woods when he was only seventeen and nine months later, their first child, Jesse, was born. Nine other children followed, all born in Madison, KY. They had 5 girls and 5 boys with the last one dying in infancy.

Tarlton inherited Lot#9. From several court documents (see VA Chancery) Tarlton was supposed to appear in court but was out of town or state. He was also short of funds but somehow he decided to buy up all his siblings' land and sell the lots for profit.

Tarlton was involved in several other court cases for his debts: 1821; 1831 and 1832. Many times he did not appear for the hearings. He passed away in 1856.

Taylor and his wife Charlotte and lot #6 belonging to his sister Sally Taylor and her husband Burgess French for $50 to Abner Gibson. 4) 05 Oct 1822 Book 27; pp 487-488 Tarlton sold his lot #9 to John Mitchell of Fauquier, VA for $200 and lot #7 (formerly Hampton's) to John Mitchell for $200. 5) 15 Nov 1823 book 27, pg 407- Tarlton bought lot #2 belonging to brother Ignatius Hampton Taylor and wife Mary of Loudoun, VA and John Mitchell of Fauquier, VA for $150/\. 6) 20 Nov 1823 book 27, pg 390- Tarlton mortgaged interest in land purchased from Lev (lot #1) to Samuel Hatch, Gurley Reeder for loans of $63.75 and $41.94.
