PROJECT OVERVIEW

The goal of this project is to develop and connect the profiles for each of the current and former United States governors.

The main objectives of this project are to...

1) Create a profile for each governor.

2) Write an accurate genealogy-based biography for each profile.

3) Source each profile as thoroughly as possible.

4) Identify and add profiles for each governor's parents, siblings, spouses, and children.

5) Connect each profile to the Big Tree.

I would like to help by working on New Hampshire and New England Governors. Am already starting with Walter Harriman. I see the list of NH governors that need work and will focus on that.

That would be great Janice. Our list of "Unconnected Governors" (linked above) will direct you to the complete list of governors still in need of connecting to the Big Tree. Remember, however, in addition to connecting them to the Big Tree, we want to develop their biographies, add sources and attach additional family members (siblings, spouses, children, etc.). Whatever additional you can contribute would be terrific.

Also, please keep us updated on your contributions on our monthly G2G post. That's where the most members will see you posts.

I understand the need to both develop the biographies and connect to the Big Tree, but thank you for clarifyng. I just finished my first New Hampshire Governor, Walter Harriman. When I started it just had a link to WikiTree. I also added his parents and wives, and listed children. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Harriman-363.

David, the current listing above for Unconnected New Hampshire Governors shows Chris Sununu, but it is linked incorrectly to a listing for John E. Sununu. There is NO entry yet on WikiTree for Christopher T. "Chris" Sununu, the current Governor. Did you want to create one, or did you want me to? Let me know please.

You are correct. Thaks for catching the error. John E. Sununu is actually his brother, the New Hampshire Senator. I've created a "skeletal profile" for Gov. Sununu in order that I could add the proper privacy settings. If you would like to flesh out his profile further, just send me a Trusted List request and I'll add you.

I don't know if you are referring to current governors, or any state Governors, at any time. My 8th great grandfather, Four times governor of Albemarle/North Carolina, Governor John Jenkins, I have researched. If that would help, then I'd be glad to share.

This page only lists the current governors. However, if you click on the name of the state next to each governor's name, it will take you to a listing of all former governors for that state who currently have a WikiTree profile. Eventually, each state will have its own Free Space page listing all of the state's former governors in chronological order. You can see sample pages by clicking on Oklahoma and/or West Virginia.

Eventually, I would like to include the colonial governors also. I wasn't able to find a WikiTree profile for Gov. Jenkins but he should certainly have one. Anything you can contribute to the tree would definitely be an asset to both genealogists and historians alike.
