There are many more Wikitree stickers - see Category:Stickers. This page only lists those relevant to the Australia Project.

Stickers - Pending

Colonial Australia - Northern Territory (NT) - needs work/decisions

Probably best considered by the CST Territories Team (when established), but may not require its own Colonial Australian sticker. Some consideration could be given to stickers for the penal colonies in NT when it was either NSW or SA. Veronica Williams 09:45, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

• Part of the Colony of New South Wales (1825-1862)

• The Colony of Northern Australia (1846-1849). This also included all of Queensland. (The end of this colony could either be 1847 or 1849 depending on how you define how it ended). Probably not worth including a sticker for this period?

• Part of the Colony of South Australia (1862 - 1910)

• Transferred to Commonwealth 1911. It is suggested we use the NT Post Federation 'Born in Australia' sticker from this time.

• Dissolved 1927

• Reformed 1931

Torres Strait Islands (copyright issues)~

NB: This sticker should be about identity rather than where born

i.e ------ ------ is a Torres Strait Islander 09:40, 12 March 2019 (UTC)09:40, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

(Torres Strait Islanders are from both Queensland, Australia & Papua New Guinea. While there is an independence movement, this is the current status) -- Obviously many Torres Strait Islanders have also migrated to other parts of Australia.

Has any requested permission to use the flag yet? Usually, this is granted with a polite letter! I am happy to seek permission for Wikitree.

See this comment by Jo Ivinson, who uploaded the flag image: Torres Strait Islander Flag. A proposed change to the Indiginous Australians Sticker is being discussed in G2G (here). ~ 24 May 2022

South Sea Islanders. Also has copyright issues.Veronica Williams 09:50, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

--------- is an Australian South Sea Islander 09:40, 12 March 2019 (UTC)09:40, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

The flag can be seen in this link (https://www.flagsaustralia.com.au/ASSI.html) More info in the G2G forum.

NOTE: Don't know who left the note willing to help? It's time stamped but not name stamped. I have decided to also leave this to the consideration of the CST - Territories Team when they are established. Veronica Williams 09:50, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

Stickers - Suggested

Please add any new suggestions below using ~~~~ to note your name and the date suggested.

  • Unassisted immigrants - for all states/territories/colonies. Per this g2g question. Melanie Paul-5413 06:04, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
  • Came Free (and other stickers associated with South Australia) . . . Province of South Australia (as many argue it was not founded with convicts, therefore was not a colony) Melanie Paul-5413 21:38, 10 March 2024 (UTC)

This page refers to stickers “ Australian Colonial Soldier” and “ Australian Colonial Soldier Stayed” but these do not seem to exist anymore (or yet?)

Why is https://www.wikitree.com/photo/jpg/Flags_of_Australia a privacy protected image when the others are not?

Hi - I am looking for guidance on creating a category or sticker to reference the Australian Agricultural Company (AAC) which was responsible for a lot of immigration and settlement, and introducing a lot of skilled labourers to Australia.

My 2GGrandfather Robert Hardy (Hardy-189), a quarryman and miner in County Durham, England, was contracted by the AAC to survey and mine coal at Port Stevens, NSW, arriving with his wife and daughter on the ship AUSTRALIA on January 7, 1827, landing at Tahlee, NSW (near Karuah).

Thanks!

Is it possible to have a generic convict sticker intead of fisrt, second, third, after fleet so that it woud read: ....... ......... was a convict who was transported to (insert state or colony) in (insert year) ? As an example, It could then read "John Guyatt was a convict who was transported to Van Diemens Land in 1852"
posted by Bill Reynolds
Hi Bill, good suggestion. Thanks! Maybe we could look at amending the text on the Convicts after the 3rd Fleet sticker.
posted by Gillian Thomas
The examples for "Australian Colonial Soldier" are showing as red, therefore there is no sticker?

Could there please be an option for those who were not convicts, and were not marines? Such as other passengers crew.

Could someone who knows templates / stickers explain to me why the Eureka sticker shows the words "A compass" on mousover of the Eureka flag, instead of "Eureka flag"? {{Eureka}}

Your guess is as good as mine.

If no objections, I'll change the coding for the template from the current imagetext=A compass. to imagetext=The original Eureka Flag

"The original Eureka Flag" is the title for image page - see https://www.wikitree.com/photo/png/Ross-6233

Cheers, Liz

May I please suggest a sticker for Convict Guards, whether civilian, as duties of the colonial military garrison or Enrolled Pensioner Guards (ex-British army soldiers , who accepted contracts to guard convicts in transit or in Western Australia)

How difficult might it be to do an "immigrant from the Shetland Islands?' It is actually quite hard to connect them because they (in my families instance) had more than one name for a name? (if that makes sense) they alternated names.. sometimes they would use a surname and sometimes they would just put -son, -sen or -dawter after their fathers Christian name. it might actually help to connect them. Mind you - it doesn't help that most of them were sailors I suppose.

Hi Larina, are you talking about a sticker or a category? There is the "Migrating Ancestor" sticker https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Template:Migrating_Ancestor that you can use with any origin and destination places. If you are looking for categories, ther are one for Migrants from Shetland to New South Wales, South Australia, and Victoria, we can add other states if you need them. Cheers, Margaret
Did anyone ever follow up on the query regards having asked permission to use the TSI flag?

The Koori Mail references that issue and states "the Torres Strait Islander Flag copyright holders do not charge anything when it is reproduced. All that is asked is that the original designer, Bernard Namok (dec), is credited". (This was in regard to the copyright holder for the red, black, and yellow Indigenous Australians flag, and problems for clothing manufacturers previously allowed to use the flag image.)

So, did anyone write to the © holders?

posted by Melanie Paul
Hi Melanie - as you know, this has been answered in the current G2G discussion. I updated the text on this page to reference that discussion.

Australia Project Co-leaders - I think we've got a winner for an updated Indigenous Australians Sticker as a result of that G2G discussion. See Template: Sandbox Liz12. The next step is getting your OK (or making changes as needed) & then I can continue the process to have the sandbox version replace the live version at Template: Indigenous Australians Sticker. Note especially the differences between the Description for the proposed sticker and the (currently) live one.

I think the "Mariners " stickers are confusing "Marines" aka "Redcoats" ie sea-going soldiers sent to guard convicts and provide law and order in the colonies, with "mariners", meaning sailors or seamen, sea captains etc.

Can we please have a black border around the white Colonial flag? It looks weird.
