Biography

Lucy was the daughter of James Say and Eleanor Viner. There is a parish baptism entry recording Lucy being baptised in 1813, but there are discrepancies in her age on official documents as below. Perhaps she was indeed born a little later and had a sister of the same name born earlier in 1813.

In 1841 the census records her as age 16 (DOB around 1825) living with her parents, 4 siblings and a servant in Dilton Marsh.

In 1851, the census records her as age 28 (DOB around 1823), born in Wiltshire, living with her parents and 4 siblings.

In 1861, the census records her as age 35 (DOB around 1826), born in Fairwood (which is near Brokerswood) working as a servant in Warmister, Wiltshire.

In 1872 she was admitted to the Wiltshire Lunatic Asylum. Her mother Eleanor was admitted in 1873 and died there in 1874 following the death of Lucy's father. Lucy remained in the asylum until her death on 4 June 1882.
