Welcome to the Wild Wild West! Project

??

This project is for those who have WikiTree profiles both of 'notable' as well as every day people from the period of US Western Expansion (defined as West of the Mississippi) between 1800 and 1925 and those who are interested in helping to research and contribute to profiles of those in the Wild Wild West. Please note that this is not a project geared only toward Notables.

This project includes anyone that would be listed in Wikipedia, known in popular culture, made significant contributions to the Wild West, or held a position of acknowledged local prominence in the Wild Wild West. These individuals are often referred to as legends. Check out the Wild Wild West Space Page to see some examples. This project also includes the many thousands of every day Americans who were part of the Wild Wild West as defined by time and geographic location.

Goals

Any improvements you can make to the profiles of the Wild Wild West are welcome, but here are some specific goals we're working towards:

  • For each person:
    • All duplicates merged into the final lowest profile ID number.
    • Use project protected requests judiciously (this must be done by one of the Project Leaders). Please limit these requests to profiles where there are common errors to be protected against or fresh and well documented research has significantly altered the profile and it needs to be protected from the reintroduction of disproved information.
    • Wild Wild West sticker or Westward Ho template (the latter only for project-protected profiles) included on the page
    • All relevant categories are added
    • Parents are correct and documented
    • Biography is cleaned up, free of any GEDCOM junk, Ancestry trees, etc., and ideally has a written biography.
