Luella was born in 1847. She passed away in 1916.

Ella Barber died in Onida Sat. morning; has suffered from cancer since last winter; >30 years she lived in the county “where the uprightness of her Christian character was a shining example … faithful member of the Presbyterian Church^[1]

Edward and Luella moved the family to Onida, SD 11 Apr 1885. Both Luella's parents died within a year of their move.^[2]

Luella's ancestor John Miller was a founder of Williamsburg, MA.

Son Calvin gave his sister-in-law a picture of Luella and her sister Lucretia as “sweet little girls.”^[3]

Ella taught Sunday school (Presbyterian). Ella Barber had a beaded satin purse. She gave Mary Hildred Ripley (abt.1901-) a penny to keep quiet in church.^[5]

In 1860 Middlebury, NY households on the same page were headed by John W. Quail (48, b. NY, farmer), James M. Quail (40, b. NY, horticulturist), and Russel Barber (49, b. CT, farmer). The two Quails were Luella's uncles and Russel Barber was her husband Edward's father.

In 1880 an Edward Barber (35, b. NY, farmer, father b. VT, mother b. NY) headed a Middlebury, NY (Wyoming County) household with wife Luella (32, b. NY, father b. MA, mother b. NY), son Calvin F. NY), servant Fredric Bowers (25, b. NY, farm laborer, both parents b. Germany), and servant Thomas Collins (35, b. NY, farm laborer, both parents b. MA).

Ella was buried with her husband in Onida Cemetery in Onida, South Dakota.
