Clara was born in 1839. She was the daughter of John Miller and Caroline Unknown. She was most certainly born in Perry Centre, Genesee County, New York (now located in Wyoming County, New York) as she was born in May 1839 and Probate papers for her father dated April 27 1839 listed his residence as Perry Centre, Genesee County. The Probate was for the uncle of John Miller, filed in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County. In the 1850 Census the Miller family was back in Poughkeepsie. After this date Clara's mother died and her father moved to McHenry County, Illinois. There he married Hannah Chatfield in 1861. By 1870 Clara had two half sibling brothers, Arthur and Charles Miller.
Clara married farmer Loren H. Baley in November 1867 and they settled in Ogle County, Illinois, which is close to McHenry. They had one daughter Caroline. Clara died in Los Angeles in 1914 and was buried back in Illinois in Winnebago County, all these counties being in the northern part of the state near Chicago.
