Biography

Elsie was born in Micklefield, Yorkshire in 1891. She was the daughter of John Meakin and Maria Garforth. . After the tragic death of her father in 1896 she was sent to Tibshelf, Derbyshire to live with her grandfather John Meakin Snr. and her uncle Gregory who became her guardian. She remained in Tibshelf until 1903 when she left Tibshelf Girls' School. She returned to Yorkshire and in 1911 she was working as a servant in the Branson household in Leeds, Yorkshire. In 1915 Elsie married a widowed clothier in Leeds, they had a daughter Edna May Metcalfe Atkinson in 1917, who died in infancy, and Aubert Metcalfe Atkinson in 1920. Elsie was widowed in 1926 and passed away in Leeds 1985.
