Biography

Evelyn was born in Beeston, Nottinghamshire (Shardlow, Derbyshire RD) in 1906. She is the daughter of Gregory Meakin and Mabel Burton. In 1930 she married Lieut. Commander John Martin RN they honeymooned in Paris and Casablanca. Later she traveled with her husband when he took up a commercial appointment in Douala, Cameroon, West Africa
