Bush is my Maiden name. My father Joseph John Bush was born in Pennsylvania, his father immigrated from Austria-Hungary and his mother from Czechoslovakia, making it a little bit more difficult to research.

Jo Masterson participated in the January 2024 US Civil War Project Connecting Challenge.
Jo Masterson is a member of the US Civil War: War Between the States Project.
This profile is part of the Markle Name Study.
This profile is part of the Stout Name Study.
This profile is part of the Snyder Name Study.
Jo Masterson was a Pennsylvanian.

I was born in Pennsylvania, to hardworking parents. My father was a coal miner and we lived in the coal mining community of Brownfield.

I married Curtis William Sangston (1940-2018) we had five children. I moved to Arizona where I continued my education, worked for 12 years as a law enforcement officer for the state, worked for Arizona State Parks for 20 years. After I retired I moved East to be closer to family.

I have been researching my family since 2008 and find it quit interesting, exciting and frustrating when I hit brick walls. As is I have at least two brick walls which I have been working on for a couple years. I cannot locate the name of Henry Burchell's wife, she was the mother of William Henry Burchell and Emma Margaret Burchell. I am also stuck on the parents and grandparents of both Abraham Stout (1817-1900) and his wife Magdalena Mary Ruffner (1811-1886)

I have assisted a friend in finding the biological parents of the baby she adopted over 40 years ago. That was an exciting discovery. Recently, Rob, a 3rd cousin contacted as I was a close DNA to him. His father had been adopted in 1950. Now that his father was deceased, Rob wanted to know more about his father's birth family. I assisted him in locating his first cousins.

  • I attended Uniontown Senior High school
  • Saint Vincentian Academy, a Roman Catholic college preparatory school near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  • Williamsport School of Commerce, Williamsport, PA
  • Cochise College, Douglas, AZ
  • Central Arizona College, Coolidge, AZ
  • Northland Pioneer College, Holbrook, AZ
  • Arizona State University, Phoenix, AZ

Hi Jo,

Thanks for having a Big Heart and taking responsibility for Orphaned Profiles. You will want to read this After Adopting Orphans as it explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need from their profile managers. You may also want to go through the new member help on How to manage your Watchlist.

Hi Jo,

It’s 6-month check-in time for Adoption Angels. Please let me know if you are still interested in being a part of the project and contributing to its goals through research help, giving advice in the Google group, or working on active cases. Thank you for your many contributions.

Best wishes, Emma

Emma, I am sorry that I have done nothing to assist you angels. I could not understand what I was suppose to do. I contacted 2 people and requested their assistance but received no reply.

Hi Jo, It looks like you used the challenge tracker during the Connect-A-Thon and marked them for the USBH Connecting Challenge. No one needs to use the tracker during the thon since profiles are counted automatically. The USBH challenge is for the US Black Heritage Project. Thanks, Emma
Hi,

Thanks so much for being a part of the Mid-Atlantic team for the January Connect-a-thon! Working together we added 2,334 profiles. A special shout out to Star Kline who was our number one scorer.

Please check your suggestions list (it is on the My Wikitree drop down menu) before orphaning any profiles.

Two of our team members have have been nominated to be RAWKed in February, Stephen Tomaszewicz and Dave Stern. It would be wonderful if they both got picked. If you love connecting, you can sign up to help RAWK 5 members of Wikitree in February here: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1682875/want-help-fellow-wikitreer-increase-their-february-will-event

Hi Jo, did you get your questions answered concerning stickers? If your still getting an error message, please send me the ID of the soldier so I can take a look at the sticker. Thank you also for signing up on the Challenge Sign-up for the US Civil War Soldiers.

Pam, I really enjoyed participating in the challenge for the US Civil War Soldiers. I did 83 connections, just cannot imagine how some can do 1,000. I will watch for more interesting projects in which to get involved.

I am so confused as which and what kind of stickers I am allowed to use, not just military. I have had someone replace military stickers, but still no know which to use.

I read: "Stickers are used for honoring a person or otherwise highlighting something that's deemed to be important about them. When used on members' own account profiles they can be used casually; you're encouraged to have fun with them and highlight anything you want other members and visitors to know about you. On ancestor profiles please abide by the agreed-upon style rules below."

It is interesting to use stickers like ancestors from England and their descendants, or a sticker for one born and raised in Pennsylvania. I have read and reread about stickers and still do not know the difference. I actually have a headache just thinking and trying to understand all of the stickers and which ones I may use and those which do not pertain to me. I know there are special categories for special people to utilize but I cannot understand which is what.

exhausted and confused, Jo Masterson

It took me awhile to figure out stickers, and I've also been corrected;)

Categories are even more confusing. It took me awhile and I tend to only use the same stickers that work for me. Hang in there eventually you'll have less of a headache. You did really well on the challenge.

Jo;

I have added you to the Markle Name Study, Watch list. As to contributions hey are any things that can be added to the study are tow expand and link the Markle family profiles. Use the two family profiles. I sent you for Markle/Markel family member, including various surname spelling used, that are common among the Pennsylvania Dutch. Enhance profiles with pictures and illustrations that would relate to the profile. (Example: picture of the ship a family may have served on, famous battles, like one that maybe specific to your family, the Locobe Brickyard Workers. Also if you come across a picture or illustration applicable to multi Markle profiles to add it to the family Watch list or information that could be helpful to others enrolled in the Name Study. You might want to add to William Henry Burchell. I also think there is a category for Mine Disasters]] Best of Luck on your family heritage study LWB

Hi Jo,

Thanks for having a Big Heart and adopting Orphan Profiles. You will want to read this After adopting orphans FAQ to understand what to do next and it explains the special attention those profiles need.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

David, thanks for the compliment and the warning. I will read "After adopting orphans FAQ." Thank you for the information. I should have read that and inspected the orphans before I adopted them. All is well! I have already begun checking the former orphans, making corrections when necessary and adding sources.

Hello Jo,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Erin, thank you for the "Congratulations!" Some of the pre-1700 profiles are a tough nut to crack and it is helpful knowing I have a group of WikiTreers when I need them.

Thanks for your contributions to WikiTree. The help is appreciated.

When adding sources in the future, please give citations for sources so that someone else could find them relatively easily. For example: 1900 US Census is insufficient. 1900 US Census, ED 21 Hayfield Township, Crawford, Pennsylvania, United States, Sheet 7A would be sufficient. There are tools to help with creating source citations from some other genealogy sites, such as the sourcer wikitree app, if you are interested.

I look forward to seeing your future contributions.

Hi, Josephine!

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.
