Biography

I was born in the hospital in Heanor, Derbyshire, the daughter of Ken and Pat Lord (nee Tomlinson. I lived in Eastwood until I was 18. I went to Greasley Beauvale Infant and Junior schools and then Eastwood Comprehensive school.

I went to college in Ealing, London, England, from 1981 to 1984.

I met my partner Tom while I was in London, and we lived in Hanwell for a while and then moved to Southsea, Hants.

Tom was offered a job in the USA so we hastily got married at Southsea Register Office so I could get a visa to go with him. I wasn't given a middle name at birth so when I married, my maiden name became my middle name and I took my husbands surname. We moved to Maryland USA in 1989, and planned to stay for a couple of years.

Our son NDJ was born in 1992 and our daughter KIJ in 1994.

We have now been in the USA for 30 years and have taken US citizenship. We still live in Maryland, currently in Frederick.

Kind regards,

Hi Elizabeth,

Thanks for checking in with me. I am enjoying officially being part on the Nottinghamshire team, and do also unofficially dabble in Derbyshire. I'm not sure whether I should officially join Derbyshire as a lot of my tree is based around the border of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

I do enjoy sourcing unsourced profiles so I wonder if joining the Sorcerers team would also be a good fit for me. I am not sure how much of a time commitment that would require?

I love being a part of Wikitree :)

Hi Susan,

No specific time requirement if you are working on Derbyshire profiles and adding sources then you might as well be named in the teams. I'll get that sorted for you. Thanks for responding so promptly. Cheers, Elizabeth

Dear Susan,

On behalf of the England Project, I would like to thank you for all your contributions towards the project's goals. Every single contribution you make helps improve English profiles!

I'd also like to share our annual Newsletter with you. You can read it here: England Project Newsletters. We hope you enjoy reading a bit about what has gone on in 2022 and what our Project has achieved.

On behalf of all the Leaders, I wish you a peaceful and productive 2023.

Hi Ian,

I am still happy to be working as part of the England project and to be part of the Nottinghamshire team, although I haven't really contributed much to them recently.

I have however adopted a few orphaned Leivers profiles in Nottinghamshire, and helped add sources to a few others.

It is summer here now, so typically I spend more time outdoors and less on the computer, so probably won't be adding much here for a couple of months, but will pick up again in fall as the days get cooler and shorter!

Thanks for checking in.

Thank you Susan! Each and every English profile you improve contributes to the England Project's goals -- even if it's not in Nottinghamshire. It all helps. Thank you for being part of the England Project and I hope you have a good summer! (it's starting to warm up here too.)

Hi Susan,

It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around.

First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on? Are you happy with the team(s) you're in, or would you like to change things up?

Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Amy, Joan & Lizzie.

Hello Amy,

I am good. I didn't do much WikiTree over the summer but anticipate that I will become more involved again as winter approaches. I have some old family pictures to add to my tree.

I haven't really done much with the Nottinghamshire group. Every time I get the chance to go on and fix things in the "a-thon" type challenges, someone has usually beaten me to it. Wikitreeers are very efficient!!!!!!

I do get messages from the google group but I usually let them sit in my junkmail as there are so many of them. I don't participate in the forums, probably because I don't remember my login!!!

Thanks for checking in with me :)

Hi Susan,

That's fair enough! I think its perfectly logical for time availability to adjust with the seasons. I'm glad that the only real complaint about the Nottinghamshire team is that there isn't enough work left to do! Have you considered maybe working on the Nottinghamshire unsourced list, or perhaps working on some connecting? It could be a good avenue to pursue if you'd like to work on the area even though a lot of the "work" has already been done.

I hope you continue to stay safe, and feel free to message me or leave me a comment if you need anything in the future!

Regards, Amy

Hello Susan

Your England Leaders are completing the six monthly check in with all team members. Thank you for your work on English Profiles and your work in the Nottinghamshire team.

These are unprecedented and difficult times, and we understand as Project Leaders that your situation may have changed somewhat in the last few months. What we are all able to/ wish to contribute on Wikitree has changed. Please let me know if you are happy with your current role and team choice, or if you wish to do something additional or different. Thank you again on behalf of all the Project Leaders for everything you do.

Hi Susan,

I sent you a message a while ago on behalf of the England Project Leaders and have yet to heard back from you. I hope you are well.

One of the requirements of membership in the England Project is that you respond to the six-monthly check-ins.

If I don’t hear from you in the next week or so I’ll assume you no longer wish to be in the project and go ahead and remove you. You would, of course, be most welcome to rejoin at any time via the G2G sign-up post.

Best wishes,

Susie :-)

Hi Susan,

On behalf of the England Leaders, I wanted to say a huge thank you for all your contributions towards the project in the past six months as a Team Member for Nottinghamshire. We've achieved a great deal during this time and we couldn't have done it without you.

Are you happy to stay in your current team and the project as a whole? Are there any other teams you'd like to join? What are we doing well, and what would you like to see us doing differently moving forwards?

Please respond to this message via e-mail. I look forward to hearing from you.
