Kelly, your One Place Study is great! Btw, I will catch up with you later, your treatment of the 1869 Hungarian census could be used as a nice example for a Free Space Page for Hungarian resources!

I see you were able to get a Y-DNA on your Kendro male relative. That's an exciting breakthrough, especially for Hungarian-Slovakian research. I was also able to get two cousins to test Y-DNA for my Slovak surname.

Hi Kelly,

It is once again time for our annual Ireland Project check-in. Please respond within the next three weeks to let us know:

  1. If you would like to continue as an Ireland Project member. If your answer is yes, please tell us if you are happy with your current team, or if you would prefer to join a different one. If you are currently participating in more than one team we would appreciate you ranking them in their order of importance to you, from highest priority to lowest. This information will be helpful as we consider possible future changes to our team structure.
  2. In the past, the project has had a very minimal membership requirement (one contribution per year) for badged members to meet. Do you believe this is adequate, or should this requirement be increased? What do you believe would be a reasonable commitment to expect from all project members?
  3. How active have you been in the Ireland Project over the past year? Please choose one of the following options: a) I normally spend 1-5 hours per month helping achieve my team’s goals. b) I normally spend 6-10 hours per month helping achieve my team’s goals. c) I spend over 10 hours per month helping achieve my team’s goals. d) I am not able to contribute every month but have spent approximately ________ hours during the past year improving Irish profiles.
  4. Please provide feedback on any things you’d like to see the project do more of in the future.

You can respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within the next three weeks we’ll assume your interests have changed or you no longer are able to participate in the Ireland Project at this time, and your badge will be removed. If your circumstances change later you will be welcome to reapply for membership.

Many thanks for all that so many of you have contributed to the project in the past year, and very special thanks to those who answered the project’s call and gave generously of their time to be part of Team Seanchaithe during the most recent connect-a-thon. We are looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Kelly,

We're so happy to see you are still active on WikiTree and caring about the Dutch profiles. The Dutch Roots Project is looking forward to give the project a new fresh start to put the Dutch in a more prominent place on the WikiTree map. The project is currently managing over 50,000 profiles and the total number of Dutch profiles on WikiTree exceeds 500,000! Within the project we are monitoring the quality of the Dutch profiles and assisting other WikiTreers in producing those profiles. We would love to pick up some other tasks but to do so we need more volunteers. This is why we check in with the members of the DRP to see if you would like to help us expand.

1) Would you like to do some volunteer work for the Dutch Roots Project? 2) If yes, what kind of work would you prefer to do within the Dutch Roots Project? E.g. translating, sourcing, or something else you want to work on?

We hope for a positive reaction but please don't feel obliged to volunteer. We just want to have a group of persons we can ask to help us with certain activities

Kind regards,

Jan, on behalf of the Dutch Roots Project

Hi Kelly,

Thank you so much for your speedy and positive reaction! We are currently composing a list with the areas of interest as indicated by the respondents. I gather I can put you on the list with Sourcing and Data Doctoring as focus, limited to ~5 hours/month. Soon as we have gathered and processed all reactions we hope to get back to you with proposed specific activities. With near to 40K of unsourced profiles and 100K of suggestions something fitting all respondents should not be too hard to find...

Thanks again, have a nice day!

Hello Kelly and thank you very much for correcting the formatting on the profile of Taber-1314, Martha (Taber) Sheffield. I adopted the profile because she is my 6th gr-grandmother but formatting is not my strong suit (yet).

I will look to see how you edited the inline citations and learn for future use. I appreciate your help! Morgan

posted by Morgan Campbell
Welcome to WikiTree, Morgan! there's a bit of a learning curve to WT formatting, but I hope you find it easier to navigate as time goes on. Here's a quick overview of formatting references:

For in-line citations, the referencing code formats each citation as a footnote; when everything is correctly formatted, there will be a hyperlinked number that can take you directly to the reference. There are two components to this code: sandwiching the source between <ref></ref>; tags, and keeping the <references />; tag at the very bottom of the page. The <ref></ref> tags are used to tell the program what should appear in footnotes versus main text, and the <references />; tag "reads" all text from the beginning of the page up to itself to search for in-line citations to format as footnotes.

  • If the source doesn't appear between the ref tags (i.e., <ref>My Source (2000). The Best Genealogy Book.</ref>), the source will remain as text wherever it is instead of moving to the "References" section.
  • If <references />; doesn't appear on the page, there will be citations with nowhere to go. No page visitors will be able to access them, and clicking the footnote will have no effect.
  • If <references />; is not at the very bottom of the page/after all in-line citations, there will be citations missing from the list of footnotes on the public page. The links for the later footnotes will also have nowhere to go.

For more info, you can check out the Citation Guide. Again, welcome, and I hope you enjoy your time on the site!

Hi Kelly, thanks for the research notes on Heijdenrijck-1. I do not understand though how the sources you cite reflect on that specific profile and why you write From the dates given, it would be impossible for Johan to have fathered Johanna Maria (I presume you are referring to Johanna Maria {Heijdenrijck-1}?). Are you saying that the date of 18 April 1648 should actually be 18 April 1748, or are you saying that she might have been conceived by someone other that the father mentioned? Could it be that the Johan Heidenreijck mentioned as father might actually be the child or the grand-child of the ' Johan Anthony H. (capitein, gesneuveld in Brazilie op 18 April 1648) ' ...?
posted by Philip van der Walt
Hi Philip,

(edit: I have linked all the names; with all the repetition, I hope it makes it a bit easier to follow!)

The Rookmaaker (1989) text cites a genealogical account from De Nederlandse Leeuw Maandblad (1911) by Wildeman, which states that Johanna Maria Heijdenrijck is the daughter of Johan Anthony Heijdenrijck and Drieske Hoenders. However, there's another source, a biography of Menso Heijdenrijck written the year he died, that gives Menso's parents as the same Johan Anthony and Drieske. From the dates given, she simply could not be the daughter of Johan Anthony and Drieske.

  • Johanna Maria is estimated to have been born in 1710; she was married in 1726, and she had eight children between between 1733 and 1751. Johan (her supposed father, per the texts) died in 1646, meaning that she would have been at the minimum 87 years old at the time of her first child's birth, an impossibility.
  • The 1724 source also mentions that Drieske had lived to be 95 and passed away before its publication. This would put Drieske's birth in 1629 at the latest, meaning that she would have been 81 at the time of Johanna Maria's birth, another impossibility.

I believe that Menso was, in fact, the father of Johanna Maria:

  • Menso was born in Wesel, Germany, while Johanna Maria was born in Netherlands. She married in Maastricht, where Menso had relocated as a preacher. Menso's mother Drieske is said to have remained in Harderwijk (220km away from Maastricht) at this time.
  • Menso was married for 31 years and had no children, then remarried in 1706 at the age of 62 and had 5 recorded children with his second wife (per the 1724 source); this fits the timeframe in which Johanna Maria was born (c. 1710).
  • I have found no reference to more children of Johan Anthony Heijdenrijck, and it is unlikely (though certainly possible) that another Johan Anthony Heijdenrijck would have married someone of the same forename and surname of his mother.

There is another Johan Antony Heijdenrijck, the son of Menso Heijdenrijck. This Johan was born in 1712 and could not have been the father of Johanna Maria, who was born around the same time. With all of this together, I find it highly likely that the 1911 source simply missed one generation of the Heijdenrijck family. The 1724 source is almost certainly more reliable given the recency of the events it describes.

If you have any other questions or theories, please do let me know!

I remember from elsewhere that source in/of the Nederlandsche Leeuw as not being very reliable. I agree that there might have been a generation missed.

Hi Kelly,

Thanks for taking responsibility for Orphaned Profiles. This After Adopting Orphans FAQ explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need from their profile managers. One quick way to find the profiles you adopted is by searching your Contributions List for the word "adopted" and "manager." You can find a quick link to your Contributions List in the My WikiTree dropdown menu.

If you will be working with any profiles needing GEDCOM cleanup, the AGC tool can help with formatting so that you can concentrate on the research. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ.

Let me know if you have any questions on how to find and record sources; find or merge duplicates; clean up GEDCOM or merged biographies; or interpret the Suggestions report. I'm here to help!
