Lewis was born in 1839. He was the son of Lewis Jarman and Nancy Brown. He served in the Confederate Army in the 3rd Regiment, Georgia Infantry, Company H. 3rd Regiment participated in several major battles in the Virginia theater, including Battle of Sharpsburg (Antietam), Battle of Chancellorsville, Battle of Gettysburg, Battle of the Spotsylvania Court House, and Battle of the Crater. The regiment was present at Appomattox Court House during the surrender of forces to the Union army. HIs service record states "Jarman, Lewis W.----- private April 25, 1861. Wounded, Malvern Hill, Va. July 1, 1862; 2d Manassas, Va. August 30, 1862. Elected Lieutenant of Co. 1, 4th Regiment Ga. Reserve Inf. May 3, 1864. No later record." He passed away in 1880.
