Edward C Jackson was born into slavery on July 4, 1830, in Lexington, Kentucky, his father, Henry, was 30 and his mother, Letitia, was 30. He married Matilda C Blair in 1855 in his hometown. His wife signed a contract with George W. Sutton for the purchase of her husband Edward Jackson on 12 October 1858. She paid $800, four hundred down and four hundred by May 1859 even though the contract was for three years. They had 11 children in 23 years. He died on January 31, 1912, in Springfield, Ohio, having lived a long life of 81 years, and was buried in Xenia, Ohio.[1]
