Biography

Early Life

Maggie (Howard) Coleman was a West Virginian.

Maggie (Howard) Coleman is a part of US Black heritage.

Margaret Elizabeth[1] (Maggie) Howard was born about 26 Jun 1892 in West Virginia.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8] Her parents were Samuel Howard and Lucy Clifford. She had an older brother, Arthur, a younger brother, Oliver, and a younger sister, Mary.[2][3]

Marriage and Children

Maggie married Paul Coleman.[4][5][6][8] Over a nearly twenty year period, the couple had thirteen children together:

  • 1910: In the 1910 census, Maggie remained in Grant Magisterial District. Her age was recorded as 17. Her parents and her siblings Arthur, Oliver, and Mary were also living in the household. She had not attended school in the past year and did not have an occupation.[3]
  • 1920: In the 1920 census, Maggie lived in Piedmont, Mineral, West Virginia. Her age was recorded as 25. Her husband, four of her children, and her brother Oliver were also living in the household.[4]
  • 1930: In the 1930 census, Maggie remained in Piedmont. Her age was recorded as 34. Her husband and ten of her children were also living in the household.[5]
  • 1940: In the 1940 census, Maggie remained in Piedmont. Her age was recorded as 45. Her husband and eleven of her children were also living in the household.[6]

Death and Burial

Maggie passed away at the age of 90 on 28 September 1982[7][8] in Piedmont.[citation needed] Following her death, she was buried at Thorn Rose Hill Cemetery in Keyser, Mineral County.[8]
