Kenneth was born in Lowell, Massachusetts (USA) on 29-Oct-1965 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was baptized into the Catholic faith at St. Michael's Church in Lowell.

He spent the first six years of his life living at 41 Farmland Road in Lowell in an upstairs apartment converted from a single family residence owned by his mother's uncle, Freddie, and once owned by his mother's grandparents. His bedroom, shared with his brother Michael after his birth, was once his grandmother's bedroom.

In Aug 1972, the family moved to 49 Huron Street in Dracut, Massachusetts in a recently-built house owned by his mother's cousin's family. Unbeknownst to the family, this move to the Kenwood section of Dracut marked a return of the Guerin line to that part of Dracut. Kenneth's great-great-granduncle, Célestin, and his wife, Hélène, lived in a house between the northern shore of the Merrimack River and Route 110, at the base where Huron Street intersected with it. Within a mile east of that location, Kenneth's great-great-grandfather, George, and his wife, lived in a home on Hemlock Street and farmed in the area. So continued a Guerin migratory pattern of living within the Lowell/Dracut area begun with Célestin Guérin's emigration from Québec in 1870.

Across the street from his home at 49 Huron Street lived the family of Dominique Hamel at 30 Huron Street. When he discovered a family tie to Jean Hamel, he decided to work on the Hamel line to see if his family was related. Long story short, they were, albeit distantly, like most folks of Québecois descent.

Education

While living in Lowell, Kenneth attended Sancta Maria School, a Catholic kindergarten school located across from his home on Farmland Road.

For his grammar school education, Kenneth attended Saint Louis de France School, a Catholic school built in 1907 to serve the Franco-American Catholic community in Lowell. In order to attend this school after the family's move to Dracut, Kenneth took a school bus for Grades 2-8. In 1979, Kenneth graduated with High Honors.

Kenneth's high school education was provided by Dracut Senior High School. In 1983, he graduated with Honors and achieved 4-year academic awards in Math and Computer Science.

From 1983-1987, Kenneth attended the University of Lowell (UMass/Lowell at the time of this writing) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.

Québecois / Acadien Heritage

Kenneth’s Québecois roots are quite deep in spite of the emigration of his paternal and maternal family lines from Québec in the late 1800s. He can trace lineage to the following:

His Acadian roots are deep as well, but narrow.

See his personal website (https://family-tree.kenware.com) for more details.

Native American / First Nations Lineage

According to various documents, such as birth and marriage records, he is descended from three Native American / First Nations women:

Royal Lineage

According to WikiTree, he is descended from multiple medieval royal blood lines. The link back is achieved via paternal and maternal lineage to and through Anne Couvent and Jeanne Le Marchand.

Research for Anne Couvent's lineage was published by Roland Yves-Gagné and Laurent Kokanosky in their 2007 article in "Mémoires de la Société généalogique canadienne-française". [2]

Nice work on the Charette/Choret/Charest line. Wikitree says we are Kenneth and Andrew are 8th cousins once removed, always nice to meet cousins.

Ken,

Your experience and struggle with reconciling 19th century documentation, particularly for the French-Canadian names, has been similar to my own. The Massachusetts Gariepy families, that I found, used compound or multiple names as a matter of practice. Most of the children were called and enumerated by their second name, or even their third first name. The first name on their birth or baptismal records was often, even usually, 'Marie' or 'Joseph', varying by gender. In other families, the first name given was often a family name and the child was called by his/her second name to avoid confusion. Names used could even change with age, based on name preference.

As you observed in the spelling variations, the Irish or English-speaking clerks and enumerators either used the closest spelling they knew or tried spelling phonetically, but with English language phonetics. This produced wide spelling variations among the Massachusetts Gariepys, as well. Just as a side note: It was only the New England Gariepy families that I found using very French names. My New York Gariepy grandmothers were always Irish or half-Irish, and the names in my family reflected that fact. As it was, the clerks/enumerators could still manage to spell the early grandfathers as 'Lewis' instead of 'Louis'.

As to age: I have always looked for the earliest childhood census that I could find to validate birth year when birth/baptismal records with parents were unavailable. In later censuses, often offspring names and order of birth is all we have to compare families with. And even that has a proviso: women pre-1900 didn't always admit to their true age, or their parent or data provider no longer knew it, I have in my possession written family histories with birth order, spouse and children, but sometimes no ages. The years on early gravestones don't always agree with the censuses, and most often are off by a year, or several, from the old birth or baptismal records. It has always been names and birth order that matched a family.

I enjoyed reading your genealogy search blog post; you think and process data the same way that I do. When I read your profile bio with the education outline, I realized why. I also have a degree in Computer Science and, in my case, Mathematics. I spent most of my working life as a systems analyst and I.T. project manager, so that is how we both handle data analysis.
