Alphonsus Liguori Gough (1888 - 1930)

Biography

Alphonsus Liguori Gough was born in March 1888, at or about Tarrawingee in the Colony of Victoria. He was the son of Joseph Patrick Gough and his wife Honora Mary Catherine (nee Canny).

Alf Gough as he was known, was an Australian Rules footballer who played with the South Melbourne Football Club, in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He played a prominent part in the Club's 1909 premiership team in a career at the top level of 63 games. He is also spent three seasons playing Aussie Rules in Sydney with the Paddington Club from 1912 to 1914.

Alphonsus Liguori Gough married Eileen Veronica Banks in 1921, in Victoria Australia.

Alf Gough passed away in April 1930, at or about Ormond in Victoria Australia,. He was was only 42 years old and was survived by his wife and 4 children. He was laid to rest at the Cheltenham Pioneer Cemetery, Cheltenham, Victoria, Australia. His wife Eileen out lived him by more than 50 years and was buried beside him in 1983, when she was 85 years old.
