Biography

Kate (Gardner) Schmidt competed with the Popular Poplars in the 2023 WikiGames.
Kate (Gardner) Schmidt is a descendant of Mayflower Passenger John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley.
Descendant
US Black Heritage PATH Graduate
Kate (Gardner) Schmidt is a graduate of the USBH Heritage Exchange Track on the PATH.
Project Logo
Kate (Gardner) Schmidt is an Outer Rim Ranger.

I started working on my family tree in the 1990's and have never stopped working on it. My ancestors are a mishmash - Mayflower passengers, slaveholders, a dozen or so Filles du Roi, a family who fled from Scotland after a scandal, a free man of color who fought with Francis "The Swamp Fox" Marion, survivors of the Deerfield Massacre, and lots and lots and lots of farmers.

These days, I'm far more interested in other people's branches. Almost all of my time is spent working for WikiTree's US Black Heritage Project; I'm a Project Coordinator of the USBH Notables project, and a USBH PATH Guide.

When I'm not puzzling over genealogy, I'm working with my husband to restore our 250-year-old house to its pre-Constitution-era glory. Oh, and, working on the genealogy of the Scots-Irish family who first "owned" the property we now live on.

DNA

  • Paternal relationship is confirmed by a GEDmatch test match between Gerri Louise Gallagher and her second cousin Kate Gardner Schmidt. Their MRCA is their 2nd great grandmother Pamela Jane Weathers. Estimated number of generations to MRCA = 3.3, based on sharing 156.9 cM across 4 segments.

Legacy Notice

When I shuffle off this mortal coil, I would like all of the profiles that are of direct ancestors and their descendants to be entrusted to the care of the WikiTree Team and/or my husband Nathan Schmidt, and/or my cousin Ginny Winslett, if she wants any of the Weathers-related profiles. Any non-family profiles with a privacy level of OPEN can be orphaned.

Thank you Kate, I would be delighted if your group would take over the Sturrup bio. I know its not necessary but I'll remove myself as manager in the hope that your group will upgrade it.

Also, although I am pretty "white" my family is rooted in the Bahamas and I take interest in the accomplishments of Bahamians, there are many for a small country. I start bios for notable Bahamians regardless of race. I have several other bios that may be of interest to you. Can you please pm me with you email address so I can go through bios I manage and suggest a few to you?

Hi Kate, I looked at your GED import profile Lila B. (Dominick) Lowe (1877-1920) It looks great. The only thing I would suggest is adding the = Acknowledgements = section and preserving where the information first came from.
Thanks, except I didn't actually create that GEDCOM. It was part of a cleanup. :)
