Biography
John Collins was christened 17 Jan 1839 at Askeaton, County Limerick, Ireland. He was the son of Maurice Collins and Bridget Lynch.[1]
LOCAL NEWS Nov 1866.[2]A very melancholy accident happened yesterday afternoon, a short distance beyond the One-mile
Bridge, by which a young man named John Collins,
a farmer and teamster, who resided near the Three
Mile Creek, and was well-known and much respected
throughout the district, lost his life. He was driving
his bullock team, which was loaded with bricks, and
at a rut or water-course on the road beyond the One
Mile Bridge, by some unaccountable means he fell,
and the wheel of the dray passed over his body. On
being discovered, Dr. Dorsey was sent for, but before
he could reach the spot Collins was dead. He was a
fine young man, about 26 years of age, and was exceedingly temperate and well behaved. He was perfectly sober at the time. It is strange that the father
of the deceased was killed close to the same spot by a
fall from his horse about twelve months ago. Collins
leaves a wife and child. An inquest will be held on
the body to day. [3][4]
