Biography

Maurice Collins was born…

Maurice Collins married Bridget Lynch on 03 Feb 1836, at Parish Kildimo, County Limerick, Ireland [1]

Migrated to Australia on the Subroan arriving on the 12th April 1848 and settling in Ipswich Queensland, Australia.[2]

IPSWICH Mar 1866.[3] —A melancholy accident happened on Thurs day evening last, which has since terminated fatally. A man named Maurice Collins, a resident of the Seven-mile Crook, was riding homeon the evening of that day, and when some distance beyond the One-mile Bridge, he ran fool of a bullock team, and was thrown from his horse. He was taken up insensible, and carried to tho Traveller's Homo Hotel, where he remained for some time, the impression being that he was only stunned by the full. As he showed no signs of consciousness by midnight Dr. Dorsey wh sent for. The doctor exerted him self to tho utmost to restore the unfortunate man, but all was in vain, for he gradually sank and expired the next day[4]. His fuueral took place on Sunday[5], and judging from the large and respectable number of the followers, ho mutt have been much respected. He was the father of a large family, but even this responsibility does not seem to have been suffioient to wean him from the prevalent Australian vice, for he is believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the accident.
