Research Notes

TRANSCRIPTION ERROR: Fold3 shows a record for James Charles in the 8th Virginia Regiment. After reviewing the original handwritten Muster Log, it's apparent this is NOT a record for James Charles but for a James Christy, a drummer. Therefore, the following record is not included with this profile for James Charles. "United States Revolutionary War Rolls, 1775-1783," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-9944-3N48?cc=2068326&wc=M61K-XP8%3A355080401 : 21 December 2016), 106-Virginia (jacket 207-224) > image 492 of 813; citing NARA microfilm publication M246 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, 1980). ABOVE citation is NOT for James Charles but for James Christy, a drummer (Transcription Error) Lt. James Charles should be James Christy, Drums – Sept 2 1777 in Muster Roll of Captain Abel Westfalls Company of the 8th Virginia Regiment & Fort in the Service of the United States, commanded by Colo Abraham Bowman in the Month of August 1777

I found James Charles as DAR A021033 and DAR 705616 non-existent

I have added my 5th gg Joel Charles as he is also found on James Charles Will that you have attached.
