William Brown was born in Northamptonshire, England.

William was baptized April 1830 at Preston Capes, Northamptonshire. [1]

On 24 April 1853 at Preston Capes, he married Selina Humphrey. [2] [3]

With wife Selena and two daughters Amelia and Sarah, he emigrated to Nelson, New Zealand in 1856 aboard the Emma Colvin. His parents and siblings were on the same ship as well. [4]

He could not read or write. [citation needed]

William died 6 October 1910 at his daughter Mrs. Thomas Talbot's residence in Hastings, NZ. [5] [6]

He is buried at Hastings Cemetery with the Talbots. [7]
