mtDNA haplogroup A2a5

• Origin: North America. "Mitochondrial DNA haplogroup A2a5 is a Native Americas branch on the maternal tree of humanity. This young branch of the tree was born between 250 and 1,750 years ago to a woman who lived among the Athabaskan ("Dené'") language speakers in what is now Canada." ^[3][4][5][6]
• Mutations common to A2a5: T3552C T12166C A16233G A16331G C16362T! ('!' denotes a back-mutation) ^[7]
• Distinctive mutations not common to A2a5: 150T, 14696G, and heteroplasmy 16192Y
• My earliest proven common matrilineal ancestor along this line was an immigrant from Scotland. This likely represents the intermarriage of a Scots male ancestor of Jessie Munro with a Native-American woman. ^[8][9]
• The next most distant maternal ancestor along this line was Margaret McTavish, born to an unknown Dené mother in Canada in 1799, and migrated to Scotland, then New York.

Confirmations

• Maternal relationship is confirmed by a triangulated group consisting of David Brodeur, "RCC" (first cousins), and Jason Henderson (their third cousin), sharing a 25.0 cM segment on chromosome 11 from 123018371 to 134410875. David and RCC match 868 cM over 33 segments. The most recent common ancestors of the triangulated group are (2xgreat-grandparents) Henry S Palmer & Isabella Liddell.
• Maternal relationship is confirmed by an Ancestry DNA test match (123 cM across 10 segments) between David Brodeur and "GLP", a child of Harry Albert Palmer Jr. David and GLP are second cousins once removed, with most recent common ancestors Henry S Palmer & Isabella Liddell.
• Maternal relationship is confirmed by an Ancestry DNA match between 2nd cousins David Brodeur and TB, 252 cM across 14 segments. Their MRCA are Frank Brodeur and Louise Mayotte, David by their son Edward, and TB by their son Arthur, then by his son Armand.
• Maternal relationship confirmed with an 23andMe test match between David Brodeur and his 3rd cousin "KBK", with a 60 cM (0.88%) match across 5 segments. Their most recent common ancestors (2xgreat-grandparents) are Marcel Mayotte and Elmira Allaire. David is the great-grandson of their daughter Louise Mayotte Brodeur, and KBK is the great-granddaughter of their daughter Alphonsine "Phosine" Mayotte Brothers (1889-1955).
• Maternal relationship confirmed by an Ancestry DNA match between 3rd cousins David Brodeur and DMR, 63 cM across 4 segments. Their MRCA are Marcel Mayotte and Elmira Allaire, David by their daughter Louise, and DMR by their son Louis Joseph (1887-1951)
• Maternal relationship is confirmed by a triangulated group whose details are provided in the free-space profile, Quad-AB1778, sharing an 8.7 cM segment on chromosome 5 from 170,802,187 to 173,750,984. The most recent common ancestors of the four-member triangulation group are Antoine Brodeur dit LaVigne (1778 - 1862) & Marie-Amable Bougret dit Dufort (1788-1851).
• Maternal relationship confirmed by a FTDNA match/triangulation among Benoît Bousquet, Frédéric Assabgui, and David Brodeur. Using the FTDNA chromsome browser, they share a common 34.3 cM segment on chromosome 7 between 33.5M and 73.0M (7760 SNPs). Benoît and Frédéric are first cousins to each other, and both are 8th cousins once removed to David. Due to pedigree collapse, it is not possible to distinguish whether the MRCA were Pierre Bousquet & Marie Banlier, or Jean-Baptiste Brodeur and Marie-Anne Messier. They all descend equally from both couples. In the lineage of BB and FA, Wilfrid Bousquet and his wife Herculine Gaudet (a Brodeur descendant) were fourth cousins once removed (see relationship).
