Welcome!

My main research interest are the families of the former Amt Battenberg in North Hesse, Germany, from the late middle ages (around 1300) until today. This includes, but is not limited to, a large fraction of my own ancestry. I currently live in Marburg, 30 km south of Battenberg.

Starting around 2008, I have first transcribed and then indexed the church records of the villages Laisa and Holzhausen (Eder), for the years 1624 until the 1960s.[1]

In 2020, I have published a book (in two volumes) about Battenberg (Eder) and the surrounding villages, discussing the surviving documents that predate the introduction of church records (pre-1600).[2][3][4] This involves the following places: Battenberg (Eder), Rennertehausen, Berghofen, Allendorf (Eder), Battenfeld, Dodenau, Reddighausen, Laisa, Holzhausen (Eder), Eifa, Münchhausen, Wollmar, and (to a lesser degree) Hatzfeld (Eder), Birkenbringhausen, Frohnhausen, Oberasphe and Simtshausen.

More recently, I have been working on transcriptions and an index for the church records of Battenberg itself (1624-1807), as well as the parish of Battenfeld, which includes Allendorf, Rennertehausen, Berghofen and Osterfeld (1574-1808). Data for Kröge is found in both.

I manage the WikiTree page Church records of the Amt Battenberg, which includes transcriptions of some of the church records that I have worked on. Further information can be found there, and on the Hesse Team page. Older versions of the same files can also be accessed using this Google Drive link (but that requires you to log into your Microsoft account).

Asteroid (128345) Danielbamberger

My interests beyond genealogy include astronomy. I am a co-founder of the Northolt Branch Observatory, from where I observe Near Earth asteroids since 2015.[5][6][7][8] I am also an active editor on the English Wikipedia.[9]
