I have been interested in family history for over 30 years and more recently have been using DNA to find and confirm my close & distant relatives.

I have had numerous trips back to the UK & Ireland & the USA to connect & chase various places and cousins of interest. Most of my Anderson ancestors are in America with 5 brothers moving there in the mid 1800s with my ancestor being the only brother to head to Australia earlier in the 1830s. I am yet to find any Andersons still in Lincolnshire or the UK but I haven’t given up. In recent times my Autosomal DNA suggests my many families (staring from the 1500s) are 100% European predominately from Ireland UK and NW Europe

DNA

My primary testing company is FamilyTreeDNA.com Results from this company are Following my Anderson male line:

Y DNA Haplogroup R-FGC32890 further refined to R-F3987 my terminal SNP. Follow my Y DNA journey out of Africa and journey through Europe by clicking here: http://scaledinnovation.com/gg/snpTracker.html?snp=R-FGC32890

Here is my current position on the Big Y Tree listed as Anderson 16273 https://www.ytree.net/DisplayTree.php?blockID=394

One of my upstream older SNPs CTS4931s traced back to a single man wayback about the time the Vikings invaded. And before that, all of us L1065s trace back to a single man who was probably in Europe. His descendants came to Scotland where they fought with the Romans, the Irish Dal Raida and the Anglo-Saxons after the Romans left in 410, the Vikings starting in 789, and then the Normans starting in 1066. It amazes me that any really old Y-DNA survived to be passed down! Ireland was spared the Roman rule, but the Vikings played hell with them. Scotland was mostly spared from the Romans—they erected the Hadrian and Adrian walls, but the Irish Dal Raida either absorbed or extinguished the Picts. The Anglo-Saxons didn’t cause too much mischief, but again, the Vikings occupied the north and east, the northern and western islands and even parts of the highlands. There was much collusion between Vikings and various Scots against other Scots R-F3987 has appeared in the last 200 years among the Anderson line in Australia.

My Convict Ancestors

Following the American War of Independence in 1783, it became crucial that the British Government find an alternative locality to transporting convicts to the American colonies. As a result of the exploration of the Pacific by Captain James Cook, Botany Bay had been recognised for its potential. It was suggested as one of the possibilities to establish a penal colony. The decision was made in 1786 when the British government resolved to send convicts to this area. Captain Arthur Phillip was appointed as the Governor of NSW and along with the First Fleet set sail on the 13 May 1787. The First Fleet arrived on the 18 January 1788 to Botany Bay. Convicts were sent to NSW until transportation ceased in New South Wales in 1842. The last convicts to arrive in Australia landed in Western Australia in 1868. I have claimed my convict family on this terrific site .http://www.hawkesbury.net.au/claimaconvict/index.php

Hi Mike,

So DNA has confirmed that we are NOT related, as my grand father is not my grandfather. Not a surprise, but confirmation.
