In search of direct descendants and parentage of Samuel Marshall (1750-1816)

I was recently contacted through Wikitree by a non-member searching for descendants of Samuel Marshall. She had gotten my name through the fact that people had incorrectly added him to my ancestors Thomas and Mary (Keith) Marshall, and therefore my DNA had populated on the profile. I am fairly certain that he is unrelated (as he would’ve been born before their firstborn child, my ancestor - John) but I am searching for descendants who have done DNA tests. I would like to see about getting more members of this lineage to test. The woman who contacted me was going to offer a Y-DNA test free of charge to someone who was a direct male descendant of Samuel, to see if he is related to her ancestor Aaron (Marshall-162). Unfortunately, she knows she is not a relative of mine, as a Marshall cousin of hers confirmed via Y-DNA he is not part of those Marshall’s.

I am hopeful that by posting this thread, someone will eventually come along who is a Samuel Marshall descendant who has tested or would be willing.

That, and I’d really like to figure out his parents. It is kind of annoying having random people connected to this line, and it happens quite often (especially when they are added without sources!)

Most sources I see for him list him as being from Pennsylvania! :) Another reason why he can’t be related to me.
Hm, a DAR lineage book... that means he has an ancestor number. And “Nancy Haylesrigg” I am now wondering if Nancy was just a nickname. Hold on, let me search for this guy’s DAR ancestor number!
I just checked the link, the image doesn’t match the info. I will be back with better info

Book Title: Lineage Book of the Charter Members of the DAR Vol 069

Source Information

Ancestry.com. North America, Family Histories, 1500-2000 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 2016.

He is DAR ancestor A073945, which means that someone could purchase the documents he has and see the proofs - however, there are some problems with “previously verified documents” concerning his daughter Fannie. Link

I have no understanding of DAR, so can offer no help there.
Thank you for trying to help in the first place! It is very kind of you!

For all of you looking for your ancestors in the Marshall family, it would appear I am the only portal that goes "Back to base" Not many are interested in or study the Family and connect to the Americas where many of the Marshalls went.

My Grandmother charged me with the task at Christmas 1957 when I was 20 that sometime in my life I would find out IF the OLD MAN spoken about in her family was in fact a Forebear. That old man was William "Billy" Marshall who lived to the ripe old age of 120 between 1672 -1792 and is Purported to have had 17 wives and concubines plus 4 children after he was 100. He lived in Galloway  S.W. Scotland  Heis also credited with being the "Last KING of the PICTS"   Much History surrounds the Marshalls  and it is deeply rooted in the history of Scotland yet due to secrecy in the family Little has ever been exposed especially after a Battle in the 800's when the Picts were defeated  and slaughtered. Two names were not used for 1000 years that of Donald and Randolph  as they had to hide in plain view of the enemy to save their lives. When one understands the meaning of their names it becomes obvious why such a course of action was necessary.

DONALD means - World Mighty Brown Haired Warrior. and RANDOLPH means, The Shield or as you will understand the Protector of DONALD.    My Great Great Uncle Donald b1847 in Liverpool  appears to be the First to be given the name Donald. He is first found using the Gaelic version Donnell in the 1871 census in the U.K. and his Brother - MY Great Grandfather Randolph Marshall   b 1852 in Westminster in what is now the Indonesian Embassy  in Great Peter Street, Westminster, London.

Randolph's daughter Elizabeth Harriet Marshall was my Grandmother b 1875 died July 1958 in South Croydon Surrey, England. My father was given the name Donald Alexander and I was given the Name Donald Albert, Albert being my Grandfathers name. I was born in 1937 and am now the oldest surviving member of the family there being only 3 of us left in our generation.
