Could someone help with something on an old parish burial record?

After an image of a 1616 parish burial record was uploaded to the profile of Richard Wheeler, it became clear that it did not say "Richard Wheeler, son" (as the transcription in the sources shows).  It instead says Richard Wheeler Senior.

However, it is the last letter in the word Senior that has me scratching my head.  That last letter is superscripted above the line of the other letters, and it doesn't really look like an "r".  Could it be some other symbol, rather than a letter "r"  ?

It is an 'r' - that's just how they wrote the superscript 'r' in this hand.
