Do you know all 16 of your great-great grandparents and are they all from Iceland?  If so, have you tested with AncestryDNA, Family Tree DNA, MyHeritageDNA, or 23andMe (before Aug 2017)?  Then please share your GEDmatch ID.  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Autosomal_DNA_Ethnic_Admixture_and_Ancestry

Thanks and sincerely,

Icelandic-Manitoban descendants might be interesting to incorporate into your study.  More from view of seeing how a strong cluster of Icelandic DNA has evolved outside of Iceland in recent history.

Gimli, Manitoba is an interesting story in the migration of Icelanders.

I have tested with Family Tree DNA, MyHeritageDNA and 23andMe but after 2017. I'm also waiting for Ancestry results.
All my 16 GGP are known (as long as none of them are NPEs) and are all supposed to be Icelandic.
There is some strange strong connection with people of American Colonial descent that I'm still trying to figure out but all of the suspected possible NPE slots are at 3rd GGP or farther back... or so it seems at the moment.
My GedMatch numbers are WN7164845 (MyHeritage/ftDNA), NM3613622 (23andMe) and CR940901C1 (Superkit).
Kind Regards

Hi! I just ran your gedmatch to see if my son, you and me have something in Common. Mytrueancestry said we have a match with an Islandic Viking but I didn't trust it that much. All my ancestors are from the Netherlands and Germany. Primarily Dutch. I almost have our complete tree back to 1600. Surprisingly our Gedmatches gives lots of hits.

Weird to think We could be linked to People from Scandinavia.

My Gedmatch: ED6291454

My son: NY8395513

Greetings and a Happy 2021

Boes family - Netherlands.
I have a Dutch ancestor [[Mum-1|Jochum  (Mum) Jóhannsson (abt.1600-)]]. Though he is so far back that it's unlikely that he is my sole link to the Netherlands, even if he is my forefather more than once over, as I have quite a few matches in the Netherlands. The Hanseatic League ruled all trade in Northern Europe for centuries so it's likely that there are more connections.

Interesting none the less!

I also have an unexplained connection to early colonial America that seems to have a Dutch component.

I'll have a look at your GedMatc later to see if notice anything interesting

Happy new year from your distant Icelandic cousin.

Siggi Jónas
Yes!... that is quite a lot of small segments that we share.

Probably many distant connections... unless Jochum is my forefather much more times over than I know.
Hi! Thanks for the reply! I'm fairly new to this. Only started to use gedmatch last week. It surprised me that after taking a dna test from MyHeritage it came out 20% Is Scandinavian and 4% Finnish. There's not even one Scandinavian between my ancestors. Only Dutch (about 270 of them) and 2 Germans. Still Gedmatch showed that the Norwegian, Icelandic and Orkney DNA is strong. I haven't checked Danish yet bur I'll suspect that will give the same results. I checked loads of Gedmatches from Island and Norway the last few days and get numerous hits. I found your ancestor Jochum but can't find a Birthplace for him. I noticed he went from the Netherlands to Iceland. If he is anywhere from the same place my ancertors are from that would make a connection but it can't explain the numurous matches I have with people from Norway and Iceland. I suspect my ancetors came from the North and headed to the Netherlands. Weird stuff. Now I probably have to save up some money to do Y-dna testing.       My surname is Boes by the way. I noticed there's a place in Denmark called Boes and the biggest city next to it has a lot of people with my surname. My first known ancestor was called Wolter Woltersn Boes. Born abt 1600. Wouldn't surprise me if there's a connection somehow. Intrigueing non the least.

Boes.
