Is there a way to limit a gedcom download by both privacy and size?

I would like to download my direct ancestors for sharing. I would like to protect privacy, and I would also like basic data only (names, birth and death dates), but if I check the radio button for privacy it unchecks the radio button for file size. I don't want the private names to be disclosed.

Assuming you have exported the file, and uploaded it into your software, most modern genealogy programs will allow you to export only the data you want, for example, ancestors of a person you select. That exported file can then be imported into a new file.

I use RootsMagic and have done this a few times. WikiTree puts some fields in the file that I don’t use … I think codes for the profile manager, possibly privacy. So I export the file without these, then import it into a new file. This takes only a few minutes, at most.

You can generally exclude living people.

A caveat, middle names, if the middle name field is used, are exported in a non-standard field. These won’t get imported.

From you pr software you then generate charts and reports needed.

First I would ask what you are going to do with the gedcom file since it won't mean much to anyone without a genealogy program. That being said, I would take it all and load it into your own program then extract exactly what you want.

I am not the original poster, but I have the same question.  I do not have a desktop genealogy program, and I don't really want to get one without knowing how much work it would be to get "exactly what you want".

My privacy-limited file is only about 30 KB smaller than the full one, and I need to lose another 8 MB to get the the 10 MB limit of the site I want to upload to.

Changing the radio buttons to checkboxes and applying both filters doesn't seem that hard.  Of course I don't know how WikiTree internal queries work.
