Problem with Ancestry Link source citation

I need help with the formatting of a source link from Ancestry. I have read the wikitree ancestry help guide and it was updated in 2022, but things seemed to have changed (or I am doing things incorrectly.)

When I copy this shared link and put it in the right format, I am getting an error about the letter "b." I am using this template: {{Ancestry Sharing|7913566|7b22746f6b656e223a2250524f304d4b4c4679733478727058324c5336526d645679562b366e34366f573572612b4e494b2b3755733d222c22746f6b656e5f76657273696f6e223a225632227d}}

This is the actual link: https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/7913566?mark=7b22746f6b656e223a2250524f304d4b4c4679733478727058324c5336526d645679562b366e34366f573572612b4e494b2b3755733d222c22746f6b656e5f76657273696f6e223a225632227d

Am I doing something wrong? Please help!

Hi Tina. According to

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Template:Ancestry_Sharing

the Ancestry Sharing template accepts two formats, an old one with h= in the URL, and a newer one based on links with token= in the URL.

It sounds as if your URL with mark= in it is an even newer format which the template cannot handle.

Try editing your question and adding the tag  ales  to attract the attention of Aleš Trtnik who may be able to fix this.

Thank you! That’s what I had suspected. I appreciate your advice!

You're welcome, Tina. But you need to remove an underscore, and make "ales" separate, like this:

 ancestry_sources  ales

The main problem with the template for me is, it sends you to Ancestry.com and I use Ancestry.co.uk so any template links don't work for me. I'd much rather have a straightforward URL.

I went to that record and created a citation using WikiTree Sourcer which included this Ancestry Sharing template

{{Ancestry Sharing|7913566|7b22746f6b656e223a2250524f304d4b4c4679733478727058324c5336526d645679562b366e34366f573572612b4e494b2b3755733d222c22746f6b656e5f76657273696f6e223a225632227d}}

I put this in a profile in edit mode and previewed it and the template worked correctly and I could use it to access the sharing image.

So, does the template work for you in that way? When you say you are getting an error about the letter b are you talking about a suggestion?

I tried the template from your question and it also worked for me.

The ?mark format for sharing links is not new. It has been in use for many months. See my notes here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:WikiTree_Sourcer_User_Guide#Sharing_Links

So I’m not sure what is happening for you. The profile that you linked does not appear to have the template in it. Perhaps you removed it because of a suggestion?

That seems odd though as I have been using templates of that form without any suggestions.

It worked for me! Thank you! The final result is a link that says "Ancestry Sharing Link." I assume that is just fine. Thank you everyone for your help. :)
