In 1830 Reuben married Nancy Alkire in Sangamon County, IL He was a practicing doctor at that time.  Sometime around 1852 Reuben married Hannah Biggers.  He died in Johnson County, MO in 1893.  Some of my DNA matches are from Blacks born in Aryshire, Scotland.  But have not been able to connect any of them with Reuben.  I suspect his middle name may be David as his 2nd born was David Alkire Black born 1834.  His oldest son and my great grandfather was Joseph Penn Black born 1832.  Don;t know from where the "Penn" name came from.

Hi Mary,

Leonard Alkire is in WikiTree already, but only one of his children has been added. You might want to start there: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Alkire-77

I have done extensive research on Leonard Alkire & family checking history books, census and wills looking for some other mention of Reuben with no luck.  History books say he was from Ohio, but later census with him and his children note his birth place as being Kentucky.  There are Blacks that were in the revolution, but the history on them does not mention a Reuben.  I found the Alkires in history records in Bourbon, KY but no Blacks near them.

I received this from a distant relative. Broke a brick wall and disproved (once and for all) our long standing "Cherokee princess" type family legend. I highly recommend since you know you have three Scottish DNA link!

Our Black line Y-DNA has proved, through male dna testing, to descend from the Scottish Lennox Clan. See https://www.ytree.net/DisplayTree.php?blockID=5

this Lennox cluster is shown from data collected by Alex Williamson. You should also take a look at https://www.familytreedna.com/products/y-dna
