To remove the parents, go to the profile page for the child and go to the "edit" view. On the right side of the page where you see the father, right under his name is "replace/remove father". Click on that and follow the prompts to remove or replace him. Then, do the same for the mother.

Thank you Virginia.

I made the correction but has not been changed within the family tree...how long does it take for this change to show in the tree.  I wish to now add the person one generation further back but he still shows in my personal section of the tree?
Now that you've removed the parents for the existing profile, you need to add the profile as a parent for someone else.

First, make a note of the profile number for the person you're working with (e.g. Smith-12345).

Go to the profile of the child of Smith. Click on the "Edit" tab. On the right side, under "Edit Family" click on the spot for "Add father."

A new page will open and all you need to do is type in the complete WikiTree ID for the person you are adding as a father (Smith-12345). Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the big green "Add father of ____."

What you need to do is to remove the wrong parents then add the correct ones.
