A tree on FamilySearch has John P. Ferguson marrying Mary Quaintance at Lafayette, Tippecanoe, Indiana on 6th June 1935, see https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LV9D-4CX This tree gives his parents as Anthony Ferguson and Ellen Melody.

Does anyone know where I might find a source for this marriage?

John filed for a delayed birth certificate in 1943, he was living in Spokane, Washington at the time.  Here's a link to the birth certificate on Ancestry, which lists those parents, both born in Ireland:  He said that his mother had died, his father was living in Evanston, Illinois (in 1943).

This doesn't  help with the marriage, but John is living with his family in Evanston, Illinois in 1920 but not in 1930.

"United States Census, 1920", database with images, FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MJWQ-1Z7 : 1 February 2021), John Ferguson in entry for Anthony Ferguson, 1920.

"United States Census, 1930," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XSRM-2KZ : accessed 7 March 2021), Anthony Ferguson, Evanston, Cook, Illinois, United States; citing enumeration district (ED) ED 2131, sheet 11A, line 32, family 126, NARA microfilm publication T626 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, 2002), roll 500; FHL microfilm 2,340,235.

Thanks Kathie,

That's good information, his mother died in Evanston in 1941 - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NQFM-TV6

I'm afraid I can't access the Ancestry page though, I get - "We're sorry. The page you tried to access is no longer available."

It's very odd, because it seems like it's all the same person, but the WWII draft card for John Ferguson, husband of Mary, living in Pittsburgh in 1940 says his birth date is February, 1910 and the delayed birth certificate from 1943 gives the birthdate as October 1909,  lists parents as Anthony and Ellen, so that's clearly for the same man as the 1920 census and the obit for Anthony.

John Ferguson
Gender: Male
Birth Date: 27 Oct 1909
Birth Place: Allegheny, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, USA
Father: Anthony Ferguson
Mother: Ellenora Ferguson
Certificate Number: 206775

Thanks again Kathy,

My problem is that there are several John P Fergusons, though I'm fairly sure this is the right one. The 1940 census gives his previous residence as Evanston and his birth state as Pennsylvania.

His employment is listed as "R. Engineer" - possibly Research Engineer, so I'm thinking he might be this one - https://patents.google.com/?inventor=John+P+Ferguson

His father died in 1956 and the obituary listed John with a middle initial of "P," so this might be the same John and wife, the former Mary Catherine Quintaince, in the 1940 census:  "United States Census, 1940," database with images, FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KQ4X-2QC : 7 January 2021), John P Ferguson, Edgewood, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, United States; citing enumeration district (ED) 2-166, sheet 4B, line 63, family , Sixteenth Census of the United States, 1940, NARA digital publication T627. Records of the Bureau of the Census, 1790 - 2007, RG 29. Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, 2012, roll 3403.
