Advice before editing this pre-1700 Warner profile?

I have information to contribute to the profile of Daniel Warner Jr.. This is what I can add:

  • Conn probate record 1713; disposition of wife Joanna and children of Daniel Warner

These are the sources I am using:early Conn Probate Records

Should I contact one of the pre-1700 projects or know about any style guidelines before proceeding? Thank you!

I see that you have a pre-1700 badge on your profile. Good.

It is always a nice idea to comment on the record so the PM has some idea of what you want to add. They may even help.

I assume that you are going to provide a solid footnote to go along with the data you will be adding. There is work going on right now to clean up profiles in accordance with this style page. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Sources_Style_Guide

Please try to add a link to your footnote so other who come behind you will be able to follow your work and may even be able to use it on profiles they are interested in.

As an example, I use this format for Find-a-Grave references right in the bio text.

<ref>Find a Grave, database and images (https://www.findagrave.com : accessed 12 November 2020), memorial page for Ralph Edmond Barton Sr. (18 Mar 1889–21 Mar 1966), Find a Grave Memorial no. 65273672, citing Evergreen Memorial Park and Mausoleum, Riverside, Riverside County, California, USA - https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/65273672/ralph-edmond-barton</ref>

You can see it being used at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Barton-5544 .

There are other ways to do this but this seems clear to me and provides a link directly to the page.

As a final note, not everyone has memberships in the popular pay-a-fee websites. It is always nice if you can provide a link to a free site so everyone can view it. If it is a document you own, you can scan it and provide it as a picture on the profile.

Hope this works out well for you. I am sure others with answer too.

Richard.
