"George's circumstances and position as a foster child of the Saaymans were such that he, his brother , and his sisters, were unable to keep the farm Braamfontein. He was also not granted the opportunity to study further than Standard 6. Just before his marriage, his sister Engela managed to get a job for him as farm manager in the Klerksdorp district. Later on he was able to purchase a farm in the area and farmed there until he died. His wife Rina (originally from Uniondale) taught for 30 years to assist with the children's education and so forth."
