Biography

Gaspare was born in 1828 to Tomaso Zito and Margarita Livoti ^[1]. In 1857 at age 29, he married 23-year-old Eleonora Ferraro ^[2] and they had several children.

Gaspare died in 1866 at about age 38 ^[3]. Per his marriage record, he was a farmer. Gaspare was named for his paternal grandfather, Gaspare Zito.

Research Notes

Gaspare's birth record names his mother as Margarita Palmeri, and his marriage record names her as Margarita Livoti. We know that a Tomaso Zito married Margarita Livoti, as we have their marriage record. Despite the discrepancy, it is still likely that Gaspare was the son of Tomaso and Margarita Livoti, as there is no other Tomaso Zito known in this time period in this town. I also believe that the records reviewed for a marriage were more carefully reviewed than those for a birth (if any records were presented at all). The birth was reported by a midwife.
