Biography

Giovanna was born about 1818 ^[1] in Montevago, Sicily to Domenico Zito and Rosaria Napoli ^[2]. She and her parents were living in Santa Margherita di Belice, Sicily by 1847. In 1847 at age 29, she married 48-year-old Luciano Barbera ^[3], a farmer. It was a first marriage for each of them. They had about 9 children, most of whom lived. She was widowed in July 1880 ^[4].
