Louis Eugene Yorke was an American soldier. Yorke was a Brevet Brigadier General in the Union Army during the Civil War.
Louis was born in 1832 in Salem, New Jersey. [1] He was the son of Thomas Jones Yorke and Mary Ann (Smith) Yorke. [2] His father was a member of Congress from New Jersey.
On October 18, 1864, Louis E Yorke married Mary T Miller in Salem County, New Jersey. [3]

Brevet Brigadier General Louis Yorke served in the United States Civil War. Enlisted: Aug 5, 1861 Mustered out: Nov 21, 1865 Side: USA Regiment(s): Asst. Inspector Gen., U.S. Volunteers
On August 5, 1861, Louis E Yorke enlisted and mustered into the 13th Infantry Regiment, United States Army as a Captain. [4] Yorke was promoted by brevet to Major for his gallant conduct at Vicksburg. Yorke was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. Lt. Col. Yorke was assigned to 15th Corps as Assistant Inspector General. [5][6]
On March 12, 1866, the Senate confirmed Yorke as Brevet Brigadier General with rank from March 13, 1865. [7][8]
Death
Brevet Brigadier General Louis Eugene Yorks passed away in 1873. He was buried at Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, Ohio. [1][9]
