Hello Norman, I am asking for a favor. Would you search Fold3 for pension records of a US Civil war nurse named, Harriet Broad? Hopefully, the pension application would confirm preliminary birth, death, census, and FindaGrave records that have been found and which would be used for her WikiTree profile. Harriet and her family don't seem to have WikiTree or FamilySearch profiles. If you don't want to do a look-up, that's perfectly OK, I'll post to G2G.

The US National Archives has hospital muster roll cards for a Harriet Broad assigned to Judiciary Square Hospital in Washington, D.C. from July 1864 to April 1865.

There is a pension index card for Harriet Broad on FamilySearch which indicates her pension was applied for in 1892 from Illinois, and it lists an application number 1131172 and a certificate number 843774 for her pension.

From census records, it seems she was born in Columbia County, NY to John and Nancy Broad in October 1817. By 1860, Harriet was residing in Cayuga County, New York with her widowed mother, Nancy.

She had a brother Horatio Nelson Broad, b.1817 New York, who served in Company C, 75th NY INF. In the 1880 US Census, Harriet and Horatio are residing with their sister Maria Broad/Smith in Chicago.

From Chicago, IL death records, it seems that Harriet died in Chicago, IL on 20 April 1909 and Horatio died on 14 June 1895.

I don't need copies of the file, just an affirmation or denial that the Fold3 pension records agree with data mentioned above.

Enjoy Genealogy, Warren Kuntz

The US Civil War January Challenge is to connect US Civil War Soldiers for the January Connect-a-Thon. This year will be a twist of what I usually do. Instead of you choosing a "Surname Letter", you will be choosing from a block of soldiers whom I've already screened that show they have family to connect. Each soldier has a connection to one or more of his immediate family--parents, siblings, spouses, children, on their profile. Whether you work on one soldier or your whole block of soldiers, it's one step closer in our goal to connect each of our US Civil War Soldiers. The goal is to make sure all these soldiers are connected at least by one or two degrees. You can sign up now by clicking this link: US Civil War Sign-up Chart

Hey Norman,

A large number of exact duplicate US Civil War profiles popped up this week's DBE 585 report. Many were created by you or appear to be in collaboration with Ron Floyd. Unfortunately they've all been orphaned so I can't propose a merge on them to alert you two the usual way, otherwise it'd make me manually merge them all by hand myself.

Could you take a look at these first 21 profiles I came across and merge the duplicates with Ron? (Let me know if I typo'd any of these IDs.) I'll let you know if I find additional ones.

Hello Mr. Jones,

Thank you for all the help you have given Gail Bice and me in our attempts to figure out where my great grandmother and her brothers and sisters came from. The sparse family story didn't make a lot of sense, but it made even less when I started looking deeper, found grand aunts and uncles I never knew existed or had only vague hints of, and then found that all of them were sprung from people I had never heard of. I understand that you have been extremely helpful especially with the military aspects of this endeavor. I will have more to say on this once the final result of the works is available but thank you very much for all your work and expertise.

Norman, I was intrigued by your posting about Lucinda Hampton. My 4th great-grandfather was Turner Hampton (1764, Bedford, VA-1834, Wilkes County, NC). It seems that Turner had at least one brother and maybe some nephews who migrated from Wilkes County to eastern Tennessee. I have been trying from time to time to work out who of Turner's family might have settled there. Your post about Lucinda was a trigger to look again. On Ancestry, I came across a family tree belonging to Aundra Kay Hampton. She has both Johnson Hampton, Sr. and Johnson Hampton, Jr. in her tree and Lucinda is a child of Johnson, Sr. She was born in 1811 and died in 1900. If you look at the profile of Johnson, Jr., at the top there is the will of Johnson, Sr. and in it is mentioned Lucinda and her children. Johnson, Sr. lists six children as benefactors of his will.

I haven't determined yet the relationship of Johnson, Sr. to my Turner. They are basically contemporaries. I am not familiar with Johnson, Sr.'s predecessors as stated in Aundra's tree. Some names are familiar to me, but I need to dig some more. I know that Thomas Hampton, Turner's brother, did go to eastern TN. I have worked with other Hampton descendants from Turner's family and I have come to believe that his parents were ( John?) Jacob Hampton and Judith Judah Johnson. Turner also had a son Johnson who was born in 1816 and I have assumed that he had been given his mother's maiden name. So why did Lucinda have a father and a brother named Johnson?

Thanks for posting about Lucinda. It has given me some "umph" to dig some more.

Hello, cousin maybe the problem is we have several Nathaniel Bice's in our family. I'll do some verifying tonight and add all of his children including Tennassee and Yes that is how she spells it. I really could use your help on another soldier, William Bice b.1818 in Tennessee. Not sure if he was dead on the battlefield or died of his wounds later. I have found him on 1860 census in Arkansas with wife and children. I think maybe he came to Georgia to fight with his brothers. Two of which are on Wiki. Robert Woods Bice and Valentinte Bice. One daughter also on Wiki, Etta Tennessee Bice Shelby. If you come across anything, please let me know, Gail

Hi Norman, on the Civil War Stickers where it has regiment flag= it means the state flag the unit was in. Here is the link to the flags: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Civil_War_Flags

The USA and CSA Crossed Flag appears on the sticker automatically, so you don't have to list it. So you can leave regiment flag= | blank, it won't hurt the sticker to not have an entry there.

Hi Norman,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
