Biography

Daniel Wright was born in New York about 1837 to Samuel Wright and Ann Tone.

His father born in England, mother in Ireland, they came to America about 1836, not long after the birth of son William Henry Wright, as evidenced by following censuses noted.

Census reports of New York for 1840, 1850, 1855 show Daniel gained siblings George, Samuel, and Mary.

In 1860 the Wright family relocated to New Jersey.

Daniel's father was a respected cricket player for the Saint George Cricket Club, and brothers Harry, George, and Samuel are known to have participated(see their profiles). No evidence of such for Daniel.

In 1870, Daniel is noted in New Jersey census as working as a clerk. In his home was wife Margaret E. ..?.. and son George, who was born in New Jersey about 1865 per the census. Also in Daniel's home were his parents Samuel and Ann, and his siblings Samuel and Mary.

His three brothers all played cricket to some extent with father Samuel, but all three brothers became heavily involved in baseball. Harry's gravesite has a monument calling him the Father of Baseball, and George is cited by articles on the Cincinnati Reds and Baseball Hall of Fame as being the best of his generation.

Uncertain of Daniel's whereabouts after 1870.

In 1877 Daniel's father passed away. In 1880, Daniel's son George was living in Samuel Jr.'s house.

Daniel's brother George had part interest in a sporting goods company called Wright & Ditson, and Daniel may have been involved in that. There are records for a Daniel Wright of appropriate age and origin working as a shoe maker in San Francisco, California in 1880. This record also notes father born in England, mother in Ireland, so quite possibly this Daniel Wright. Children noted are 1871 Eugene, 1875 Daisy, 1879 Abbie, with wife Margaret 1840.

I attached the certain sources of 1850,55,60,70 censuses to DANIEL WRIGHT's FamilySearch profile.
