Biography
Walter Andrew Wood was born on March 25, 1894, in Davidson County, Tennessee. He was the son of Rueben Wood and Lydia Tennison. He married Mayme Dixon on October 8, 1919, in Nashville, Tennessee. They had no children. He died on November 10, 1958, in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, at the age of 64.
Walter Andrew Wood, 64, of Sheffield, Ala., brother of Miss Ruth Wood, women's editor of The Banner, died Monday night at his home following a heart attack. He had been in apparent good health prior to the attack.
Brown Funeral Home at Sheffield has charge of arrangements. The body will arrive at Roesch-Patton Funeral Home in Nashville at noon Wednesday. Services will be held there at 3 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. J. Otis Pruden, pastor of Columbia Avenue Presbyterian Church in Sheffield, officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Born near Goodlettsville, Mr. Wood was the son of Lydia Tennison Wood and R. F. Wood. He was educated in the Davidson County schools and left Nashville in 1935 when he became associated with the Tennessee Valley Authority. He began with the TVA automobile mechanical department and has served at Decatur, Ala., Camden and Paris, Tenn. Mr. Wood had been stationed at Muscle Shoals, Ala., since 1947.
He was married in 1919 to Miss Mayme Dixon of Nashville. She survives.
Mr. Wood was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and of the Buena Vista Lodge. He was a Scottish Rite Mason. He served as a signalman with the U.S. Navy in World War I.
Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. A. R. Clark, Nashville, and a brother, Luther G. Wood of Rockwood, Tenn.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Elmo Wood, C. Aubrey May, Fred Galligan, M. D. Miller, James B. Hagewood and Jim L. Jones, all of Nashville; Roy Caddel and George Jackson, both of Sheffield.
