Biography

Nancy Gay Witter was the daughter of Glendale dairy farmer Howard Ray Witter and Hannah Merle Huff, born on 5 Mar 1925 in Glendale, Maricopa County, Arizona. She and her brother, Dick Jr., were playmates of a young Marty Robbins, whose family lived nearby during the early 1930s.[1][2][3]

Nancy married Robert T Callin on 28 Jun 1942 in Glendale, Maricopa County, Arizona. was born on 16 Dec 1920 in Findlay, Hancock County, Ohio. His family moved to Orlando before 1935, and Bob attended high school there. After two years of high school, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on 26 Jul 1941 at Camp Blanding, Florida, and was soon posted to serve as a mechanic at Luke Field, near Glendale, Arizona.[4][5][6][7][8][9]

Bob and Nancy bought a home on Gardenia Lane in Glendale, and once she finished her degree at Grand Canyon, both taught in the Glendale Union School District. Nancy’s mother, Merle Witter, spent her final years in their home. After they retired from teaching, Bob and Nancy eventually sold their Glendale home and lived in Sun City until Nancy's deteriorating health led them to move into a house two doors down from their daughter, Vicki, in Peoria, Maricopa County.[10][11][12]

Nancy died on 23 Dec 2004 at age 79 in Peoria and was buried in Resthaven Park West Cemetery in Glendale. Her obituary was published in The Arizona Republic on 28 Dec 2004.[13][14][15][16][17]
