He was a Sgt. in Co. D, 23rd AL Brgt., Forysth, Georgia, during the Civil War, was wounded at Beascen, Georgia, 14 March 1864. He had been in five battles (30 June 1864). After the war, he returned to Pollard and went into the timber business with a new partner, Meddows Brewton. His accounting book entry reads: "Meddows Brewton & Williamson commenst getting timber Feb 26, 1866."
