Biography
Edward (Ned) graduated preparatory school on Sunday, June 11, 1944 from the Lenox School (an Episcopal independent, college-preparatory boarding school for boys), Lenox, Massachussetts. "Non ministrari, sed ministrare." Not to be served, but to serve.
Upon turning 18 in April,1944, he enlisted in the United states Navy in Springfield, MA., and received a deferment to report for duty to allow for his graduation in June. He was accepted to enter Trinity College, in Hartford, Connecticut, once his WWII service requirements were completed. He entered the Navy on June 28, 1944, in Springfield, MA., and departed for Navy training on a troop train that night.[1]
