Sources

  • Henry may have been born in Marshall County, Kentucky, though this is just a guess. His younger sister Ida Williams Adams stated she was born in Marshall County, Ky., on her daughter Fronie's delayed birth certificate, dated 21 April 1954. Henry's brother just older than he, Jeff Davis, was born in Tennessee in 1861. The earliest record of the family in Kentucky yet found is the 1870 census report taken in August in Graves County, as detailed below.
  • Written notes taken during conversation with my grandmother, Fronie May Adams Miles, circa 1980, during which she recalled her Uncle Henry coming from his home in Graves County to stay with her and the rest of the Ida Adams family for a little while after the death of her father, Emles Adams, 3 May 1903. Besides doing the farm chores himself, Henry taught the oldest son, Clarence, who was 13, how to hitch up the mules and how to plow with them. She said "he married Laura Clark, preacher Clark's daughter."

Henry was born in Kentucky; both assumed parents, Thomas and Janie Williams, in Tennessee, as were all four of his assumed older sisters and his older brother. He has one assumed younger brother and one younger sister who were both born in Kentucky, also. (Clear Spring is in the northeastern part of Graves County very close to the Marshall County line.).
